A 76-year-old British national working as a broadcast engineer for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season was found dead in his room at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai.
A 76-year-old British national working as a broadcast engineer for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season was found dead in his room at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.
According to a report in NDTV, the deceased has been identified as Ian Williams Langford. He had been staying at the hotel on Marine Drive since March 24, having arrived for IPL broadcast coverage duties.
According to police, Langford returned to his room on the night of March 29 after attending an IPL match. When hotel reception staff attempted to contact him the following day there was no response from his room.
After that when hotel staff proceeded to check on him in person, they received no reply despite repeated knocking. After accessing the room using a master key, they discovered Langford lying unresponsive on the floor. The hotel’s in-house doctor was called immediately, who pronounced him dead at the scene.
An accidental death report has been registered at Marine Drive Police Station.
Langford was among a number of international broadcast professionals who had travelled to India for IPL coverage this season.
