Usha along with First lady Melania Trump visited Camp Lejeune, a US military camp in North Carolina on November 19 where she was photographed without her wedding ring which stirred public attention sparking a wave of online rumours about the couple’s relationship.
In the image during her official visit, Usha appeared in a burgundy outfit, who was seen greeting service members and families. What drew the spark was her bare left ring finger.
Social media was swirled with online gossip, with some commentators suggesting the missing ring signalled a looming separation of “soft launch” of a divorce from the Vice President.
The episode followed weeks of heightened scrutiny of the couple after an onstage embrace between JD Vance and Erika Kirk, widow of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, which went viral on social media and fuelled gossip.
The warm hug between JD Vance and Erika at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi on October 29 attracted attention on social media.
Declining the rumours
In a bid to quell the speculation, the spokesperson of Usha Vance issued a brief statement and told People that Usha, a mother of three, spends her days “doing a lot of dishes, giving lots of baths, and forgetting her ring sometimes”.
JD Vance and Usha met at Yale Law School and married each other in 2014. The couple has two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter Mirabel. The pair recently faced a backlash after Vance openly spoke about hoping his Hindu wife could one day embrace Catholic faith.
Erika saw similarities between Vance and Kirk
Erika at the University of Mississippi last month addressed the audience, saying that she saw similarities between Kirk and Vance.
“No one will ever replace my husband. But I do see some similarities of my husband in Vice President JD Vance. I do. And that’s why I am so blessed to be able to introduce him tonight,” Erika said.
