Pakistan: Govt official, 2 cops among 5 killed as TTP ambushes vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

At least five people were killed when TTP militants ambushed a government vehicle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday, targeting the convoy of a senior district official.

At least five people were killed after Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants attacked a government vehicle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday.

The assault in Bannu district targeted the vehicle of Shah Wali, the assistant commissioner of North Waziristan. Wali was among those who died, along with two policemen, News18 reported citing sources.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, referred to by the Pakistani state as ‘Fitna-al-Khawarij’, is a banned organisation.

The attack came a day after three TTP militants were killed in retaliatory action by Pakistani security forces in Balochistan.

According to a statement issued by the Frontier Corps Balochistan South spokesperson, the action followed an incident in which one of the “suicide attackers” blew himself up at the main gate of the FC headquarters in Nokkundi, as reported by Dawn. The report said that at least six armed attackers entered the headquarters after the blast.

A checkpost in the Gurmakan area of Panjgur district was also reportedly targeted.

TTP violence has intensified since the group ended its ceasefire with the Pakistan government in November 2022, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Dawn also reported that seven blasts hit Quetta and Dera Murad Jamali in Balochistan on November 29, including one that destroyed part of a railway track and disrupted train services.
