Intelligence agencies have received inputs that Lashkar-e-Taiba has been planning attacks near Delhi’s Red Fort and key religious places across India, sources have told News18.
Sources have told the news outlet that security agencies have issued an alert at the Red Fort and nearby areas about a possible explosion threat. They have also suggested that Chandni Chowk may also be targeted by LeT.
Intelligence sources have indicated that the terror outfit is allegedly plotting an IED attack in the national capital and other cities.
The development comes three months after a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed 12 people and injured nearly two dozen others. The blast occurred when a vehicle packed with explosives detonated close to the Red Fort Metro Station, sparking fires in several nearby cars.
According to DNA test results, the vehicle was being driven by Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar Un Nabi, a doctor at Al-Falah University.
The
Red Fort blast occurred hours after therecovery of around 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate and a cache of arms and ammunition from a Kashmiri doctor’s rented accommodation in Haryana’s Faridabad, near Delhi. Dr Muzammil Ganaie was arrested in the case from Faridabad’s Dhauj area.
What was LeT’s plan?
TheNews18 report says that Jaish-e-Mohammed, in a rare coordinated effort with LeT, was targeting major Hindu shrines in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The sources say that the attack could be a response to India’s Operation Sindoor, where forces targeted terrorist hideouts in Pakistan. Intercepted communication indicates that both the terror outfits view the strikes as a provocation and are seeking revenge against it.
Intelligence intercepts from encrypted channels point to what officials describe as a rare operational collaboration between cells of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, allegedly overseen by handlers in Rawalpindi under a joint plan codenamed “Zulm Ka Badla.”
Sources said some of those implicated are linked to JeM chief Masood Azhar, as well as associates of LeT founder Hafiz Saeed.
Sleeper cells used to surveil entry points
Intelligence from Uttar Pradesh indicates that sleeper cells were being used in the areas of Ghaziabad and Dadri to surveil and identify possible entry points.
Sources added that infiltration routes along the Nepal and Bangladesh borders are reportedly being used, with operatives allegedly crossing over under false identities and blending in as labourers or street vendors.
Intelligence inputs also indicate that explosives may be transported along truck routes from Punjab, with some of the materials believed to have been traced back to suppliers in Pakistan.
