TCS Nashik case: Several staff suspended as allegations of harassment, religious conversion surface

TCS has suspended several Nashik employees after police action over allegations of sexual harassment and religious conversion.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has suspended several employees at its Nashik unit after allegations of sexual harassment and religious conversion surfaced, though the company has not revealed how many staff members have been affected. The development follows arrests made by Nashik Police in connection with the case, which involves employees reportedly holding senior roles, including team leaders.

The company confirmed on April 12 that those linked to the matter have been suspended pending investigation. It stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion and acted swiftly once the issue came to light. It also said it is cooperating with local law enforcement authorities and that further steps will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

Complaint details and timeline

The case first emerged on March 25 when a young woman approached the Deolali Camp Police Station. She stated that she worked at a BPO office in the Mumbai Naka area and alleged that between 2022 and 2026, three colleagues, including a woman, had hurt her religious sentiments. She also accused one male colleague of sexually exploiting and molesting her on multiple occasions.

Multiple FIRs registered

Following the complaint, Nashik Police launched an investigation and urged other employees to come forward. By April 3, nine FIRs had been registered. These included eight complaints by women employees alleging sexual offences and inappropriate religion-linked remarks and one complaint by a male employee citing hurt religious sentiments.

Several complainants stated that they had earlier raised concerns with the company’s human resources department but alleged that no action had been taken at the time.

Arrests and ongoing investigation

Those arrested have been identified as Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar and Danish Sheikh, along with a woman whose identity has not been disclosed. Of the seven accused, six are in magisterial custody while one is reportedly absconding.

An eighth accused, the firm’s HR manager at the Nashik office, is currently under scrutiny and in police remand.
