Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, saying Islamabad must decide “whether they want to be part of geography or history” if it continues to support terrorism against India.
According to PTI, the Army chief made the remarks during an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’, organised by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi. He was responding to a question on how the Indian Army would react if circumstances similar to those that led to Operation Sindoor emerged again.

“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” General Dwivedi said during the event.
His statement came days after India and the armed forces marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, a military operation launched in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir last year.
Reminder of earlier warning
This is not the first time General Dwivedi has issued a stern message to Pakistan. According to a News18 report, in October last year, he had warned that the Indian armed forces would not show the same restraint seen during “Operation Sindoor 1.0” if Pakistan continued supporting terrorism against India.
At the time, the Army chief referred to Pakistan’s alleged involvement in “state-sponsored terrorism” and said that India would respond in a way that would force Pakistan to reconsider its actions.
His remarks had come shortly after defence minister Rajnath Singh raised concerns over Pakistan’s military activity near the Sir Creek region, a marshland area located between Gujarat and Pakistan’s Sindh province.
Singh had accused Pakistan of keeping border disputes alive despite years of dialogue efforts and warned that any “misadventure” in the Sir Creek area would receive a strong response from India.
He also said that the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) were maintaining strict vigilance along the border.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was launched by India following the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the operation, carried out on May 7, 2025, Indian forces targeted terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan. According to official statements at the time, nine terror-linked locations were targeted during the initial phase of the operation, in which a large number of terrorists were killed.
Indian authorities had clarified that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted in the first phase. The military tensions between India and Pakistan later eased after both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, 2025.
General Dwivedi’s latest comments indicate that India continues to maintain a tough position on cross-border terrorism and remains prepared to respond strongly to future security threats.
