US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also invited PM Narendra Modi to visit the White House in the near future on behalf of US President Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and discussed the continued expansion of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, along with key regional and global security developments.

Rubio arrived in the country earlier in the day for a four-day trip that will also see him participate in a meeting of Quad foreign ministers.

Welcoming Rubio to the Indian capital, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would further deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Warmly welcome Secretary of State Marco Rubio of the USA to New Delhi. His visit will add further strength to India-USA Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership,” Jaiswal tweeted.

A week after accompanying President Trump on his visit to Beijing, Rubio arrived in New Delhi for his first-ever trip to India, where he held more than an hour of closed-door talks with PM Modi, according to a US official.

Before departing on Tuesday, Rubio is also scheduled to attend a meeting of Quad foreign ministers from Australia, India, Japan and the United States, a grouping widely viewed as a strategic counterbalance to China’s growing influence in the Indian Ocean region.

The meeting comes amid deepening cooperation between New Delhi and Washington across defence, technology, trade, energy and strategic sectors. India and the US have significantly expanded engagement in recent years through initiatives focused on critical technologies, semiconductor manufacturing, defence production and Indo-Pacific security cooperation.

The talks also took place against the backdrop of ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, the Indo-Pacific and Eastern Europe, where both countries have continued consultations on regional stability and strategic coordination.
