Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke with West Asian leaders and stressed diplomacy as the path to resolving the Iran conflict
As tensions in West Asia continue to affect global trade routes and energy supplies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Parliament Monday and said that India has been actively engaging with regional leaders while emphasising dialogue and diplomacy as the only way forward.
Addressing the situation, PM Modi said Indians in the region are receiving assistance and that diplomatic efforts are ongoing.
“Indians in West Asia being extended required assistance; I spoke twice with most government heads in the region. Indian missions in the affected region are extending all possible help to our people.”
He also said he personally spoke to leaders across West Asia and urged resolution amid the ongoing crisis.
Speaking on the conflict, PM Modi outlined India’s economic and strategic ties to the region.
“India has extensive trade relations with countries at war and affected by the conflict. The region where the conflict is taking place is also an important route for our trade with other countries around the world, particularly for a large portion of our crude oil and gas needs,” he noted.
He added that the region holds additional importance due to the presence of Indian nationals and commercial operations.
“This region is also important for us for another reason. Nearly 1 crore Indians live and work in the Gulf countries. Commercial ships operate there. The number of Indian Crew members is also very high. Due to these various reasons, India’s concerns are naturally greater.”

PM Modi stressed the need for consensus within Parliament on the issue.
“Therefore, it is essential that a unified voice and consensus reach the world regarding this crisis from the Parliament.”
The penultimate week of the Budget session began on Monday, with proceedings in both Houses resume at 11 am.
The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Thursday last week, with no sitting the following day due to Eid.
