The seventh round of India-Russia Consultations on United Nations matters was held on March 17, 2026, in New Delhi, reaffirming continued coordination between the two countries on key multilateral issues.
The Indian delegation was led by Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Russian side was headed by Alexander Alimov, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, MEA said in a press release.
During the consultations, both sides briefed each other on their respective priorities at the UN, reflecting a shared interest in strengthening multilateral cooperation. Discussion between two countries focused on major issues on the United Nations Security Council agenda, including counterterrorism, peacekeeping operations, and long-pending reforms of the Security Council, the MEA said.
In the meeting, India reiterated the need for comprehensive reforms in UNSC, to make the body more representative and effective, while Russia underlined the importance of coordinated efforts on global security challenges.
Both sides also exchanged views on ongoing regional and global developments, highlighting areas of convergence as well as mutual concerns.
