The Centre has ordered that a household’s LPG supply will be cut off if it refuses to switch to piped gas when a pipeline is already available in its area.
The order has come in the midst of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) shortage in the country as a consequence of the ongoing war in West Asia.
In the midst of shortage, the Centre has pushed for households to adopt piped natural gas (PNG) over LPG.
The government considers the PNG a more convenient alternative that is both domestically produced and has a diversified supply. Moreover, it believes that ensuring constant supply of PNG is easier as it is directly supplied to gas stoves in the kitchen and does not need cylinder refills.
This is a developing story.
