The PM said that he had reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure in the ongoing conflict.
He added, “I reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on regional energy infrastructure.”
The Prime Minister said that both sides have agreed on the importance of ensuring uninterrupted maritime movement in the region.
This comes amid growing concerns over the safety of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation and keep shipping lines open and secure,” Modi said.
The conversation between two leaders comes at a time when the continued blockade of Hormuz strait has led to a phase of global economic uncertainty due to major supply chain disruptions. Countries, especially in Asia, are dependent on this strategic route for their import of crude oil, a majority of which comes from the Gulf region.
In the conversation, PM Modi also thanked the Saudi Crown Prince for his support to the Indian community living in the kingdom.
“Thanked him for his continued support for the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia,” he said.
The call underlines India’s growing diplomatic outreach in the Gulf as New Delhi seeks to safeguard its energy interests and protect its diaspora, and push for stability in a region critical to India’s economy and strategic interests.
