VIRUDHUNAGAR: Mild tremors were felt in Srivilliputhur, Sivakasi and Sattur areas of Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu on Thursday night. The National Centre for Seismology confirmed via an X post that tremors measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale were felt in Virudhunagar district at 9.06 pm.
Panicked people came out to the streets from the residences, and a chaotic situation prevailed for a few hours. Speaking to TOI, Virudhunagar district collector N O Sukhaputra said that people in Srivilliputur, Sivakasi and Sattur areas had experienced mild tremors. “We have alerted the officials about the tremors and appealed the people not to panic. So far there is no information about any damages,” he said. Official sources said that an emergency meeting had been convened by the collector.
