US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor to arrive in India next week to formally take charge – Firstpost

Gor, 38, who is expected to become the youngest US envoy to India, stated that he is dedicated to advancing America’s interests in this “important” partnership

US Ambassador-designate Sergio Gor will arrive in India next week to formally take office after being nominated for the position last year by US President Donald Trump.

Gor, who is also Trump’s special envoy for South and Central Asian affairs, will arrive on January 12 and formally present his credentials.

The
diplomat’s arrival in India comes at a time when the India-US relationship has taken a toll due to Trump’s tariffs that amount to 50 per cent as a punitive measure for New Delhi to buy Russian oil.

Gor, 38, who is expected to become the youngest US envoy to India, stated that he is dedicated to advancing America’s interests in this “important” partnership.

The US Senate had confirmed Gor in October last year to serve as the next United States ambassador to India. In August, Trump had promoted Gor, Director of Presidential Personnel, to be the next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

At his confirmation hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in September, Gor had said that India is a strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond. He had underlined that he is committed to advancing America’s interest in this “important” partnership.

Who is Sergio Gor?

Trump has described Gor as a “great friend” and one of the most influential figures in his administration.

Gor, who currently serves as director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, will remain in the role until his confirmation, Trump said.

The president credited Gor with playing a central role in his “historic presidential campaigns,” publishing his best-selling books, and leading a major pro-Trump super PAC.

Gor began his political career working as a spokesman for Republican lawmakers including Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Randy Forbes. In 2013, he became communications director for Senator Rand Paul’s PAC, RANDPAC, and continued to work closely with the Kentucky senator.
