US Ambassador Sergio Gor, Trump aide in Delhi on a 5-day tour for bilateral talks: State dept

The visit, which runs from October 9 to October 14, will include meetings with senior Indian government officials to discuss a broad range of strategic and economic issues

Newly-appointedUS Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources Michael J Rigas, a former senior aide to President Donald Trump, have arrived in New Delhi for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, the US State Department said in a statement on Thursday.

The visit, which runs from October 9 to October 14, will include meetings with senior Indian government officials to discuss a broad range of strategic and economic issues.

According to the statement, the discussions will focus on enhancing the US-India partnership and advancing shared goals in the Indo-Pacific region.

“The United States will continue to work with India to strengthen our strategic partnership and promote a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Indo-Pacific region,” the statement read.

The announcement came not so long after the US Senate confirmed the 38-year-old Gor as the American envoy to India.

His visit comes as trade negotiations between India and theUnited Statesremain underway amid escalatingtarifftensions.

Gor is currently only visiting India and has not yet assumed his official duties. His presentation of credentials and move to India will occur at a later date that has not yet been determined, according to a US Embassy spokesperson.
