China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan on Friday for bilateral talks, Beijing said on Thursday.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will embark on a three-nation trip to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan on Friday for bilateral talks, Beijing said on Thursday.
Wang will visit for 5 days from 12 to 16 December for top political and bilateral talks about the upsurge in the Middle East and the common concerns of the residents.
The aim of the visit will be “to exchange views on bilateral relations, the situation in the Middle East and major issues of common concern”, China’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
The first stop of the Chinese official will most likely be Abu Dhabi, which comes at the invitation of Wang’s UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
The US always exercises dominance in the Middle East region and alongside China has strengthened its trade and diplomatic relations with the Middle East in recent years.
“China expects that through this visit, it can consolidate political mutual trust with the three countries,” foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said as quoted by AFP.
The UN Security Council last month adopted a US-drafted resolution, establishing a transitional BoP and authorizing an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to oversee governance, reconstruction, and security efforts in Gaza.
Amid the Gaza peace plan, Beijing will act to frame itself as a mediator in West Asia, facilitating a 2023 rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran and portraying itself as a more neutral actor in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict than its rival the United States.
China is also focusing on the Middle East as part of its Belt and Road Initiative, a vast global infrastructure project developed over the last decade under President Xi Jinping.
