Addressing the workers at BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, he said, “Today, when the BJP has won, the focus should be on change, not revenge. The focus should be on the future, not fear. Let’s end this endless cycle of violence once and for all.”
Framing the verdict as a turning point, PM Modi said West Bengal had witnessed “poriborton” (change) and was now “bhaymukt” (free of fear).
“Bengal today is free of fear, has seen poriborton,” he said, adding that the results reflected a shift in the state’s political environment.
The Prime Minister also thanked voters across West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where the BJP and its allies registered a strong showing.
“Today, I respectfully bow to the people of Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, and the people of Tamil Nadu and Keralam… I also heartily congratulate the millions of BJP workers. Every BJP worker, big or small, has once again performed wonders. They have made the lotus bloom,” he said.
Calling the West Bengal result “historic”, PM Modi said the BJP’s rise now stretches across the Ganga belt.
“With Bengal’s victory, the lotus has bloomed from Gangotri to Gangasagar—Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now West Bengal. These states, nestled around the Ganga, now have the BJP and NDA in power,” he said.
He also framed the outcome in broader democratic terms.
“Win and loss are part of the game. But the people of these five states have shown the world why India is the mother of democracy,” PM Modi said.
Describing the result as a “victory of democracy and the Constitution”, the Prime Minister said the BJP’s performance in West Bengal marks a landmark political moment for the party in the state.
