Meanwhile, security agencies confirmed that the explosion which set the scooter on fire was the result of a grenade attack, according to a News18 report, citing top intelligence sources.
The sources told News18 that a probe is underway to investigate possible links to Pakistan-based handlers and banned terror outfits operating through local criminal networks.
What was initially suspected to be a vehicle blast is now being treated as a targeted attack, with early inputs suggesting a pattern seen in recent strikes on security and political sites in Punjab, reported News18.
Investigators are probing the role of Pakistan-based operatives and extremist groups, including Babbar Khalsa International, allegedly working with local elements.
The incident is part of a broader trend, with over 20 grenade attacks reported in Punjab since 2024, including in Jalandhar and Amritsar, mostly targeting security and political establishments.
Police are analysing CCTV footage and forensic evidence, while detentions have been made. Past probes by agencies including the National Investigation Agency have pointed to local operatives acting under handlers based abroad.
Security has been tightened as investigations continue.
