The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will go down in history as the state witnessed a seismic political shift. Actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), dismantled the decades-long DMK-AIADMK duopoly, emerging as the single-largest party, securing 108 seats in a 234-member House.
Now, as Vijay explores his options for government formation — he’s fallen shy of the required 118 mark — his financial success has come under a sharp lens, with people expressing interest in his networth that spans into crores.
Just how rich is Vijay? We take a deep dive into his wealth — from his properties to his cars.
Money, money, money!
According to
Vijay’s election affidavit, the TVK chief is worth a whopping Rs 624 crore. This comprises his movable assets worth Rs 404 crore as well as his immovable assets amounting to Rs 220 crore.
A big highlight of his wealth is the Rs 213 crore that sits in a single savings bank account. As per his election affidavit, this amount is parked at the Indian Overseas Bank’s Saligramam branch. Notably, this makes up more than a third of his personal wealth.
He also holds fixed deposits worth nearly Rs 100 crore across four banks, including Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and State Bank of India. However, his exposure to the stock market is minimal, with equity holdings valued at less than Rs 20 lakh, indicating a near absence of market-linked investments.
According to his Income Tax returns for the fiscal year 2024-25, he generated an income of Rs 184.53 crore, with the primary source being self-employment, interest income, and rental income from properties. His income isn’t a total surprise; Vijay has been one of the country’s highest-paid actors, reportedly charging between Rs 100 crore and Rs 120 crore per film.
Thalapathy, as he is fondly referred to, also revealed in his election affidavit that while he has no liabilities nor loans, he has granted some people with loans. For instance, he has lent Rs 3 crore to N Anand, the general secretary of Vijay’s political party, TVK. Moreover, he has loaned Rs 12.60 crore to his wife,
Sangeetha, Rs 3.02 crore to his father, director-producer SA Chandrasekar, Rs 8.71 lakh to his mother, Shoba Sekar, Rs 8.78 lakh to his son, Jason Sanjay, and Rs 4.60 lakh to his daughter, Divya Sasha.
Vijay’s vast real estate holdings
Vijay also has significant land holdings. The actor-turned-politician has multiple properties across Chennai, including Neelankarai, Saligramam, Mylapore, and Egmore, valued at around Rs 115 crore.
Neelankarai is his current residence, a sprawling mansion on Chennai’s East Coast Road. Estimated to be Rs 80 crore, this beachfront property keeps prying eyes out. It is designed to disappear behind high walls and lush greenery. Inside the mansion, there are massive glass panels and open-floor layouts. The house also boasts a state-of-the-art gymnasium and swimming pool.
Apart from this, he also owns commercial property in areas such as Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Parivakkam, at an estimated worth of Rs 82.8 crore.
He also holds non-agricultural land worth Rs 22 crore and agricultural land in Kodaikanal valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh.
Vijay is also listed in his election affidavit as Managing Director of Jaya Nagar Property Private Limited, a formal real estate business interest beyond his personal holdings.
Vijay’s love for cars
The TVK chief is also known for his love of cars and is a collector of several vehicles. In fact, his collection is worth an estimated Rs 13.52 crore.
So, what’s in his garage?
Vijay owns a mix of luxury and everyday cars. For instance, he owns a Lexus LM 350h, which is priced around Rs 2.20 crore. This vehicle is luxurious and even boasts a massive 48-inch display and ultra-premium seating.
The TVK chief also owns a humble Maruti Suzuki Swift. In fact, he’s been seen driving around the vehicle during the election campaign.
What an incredible drama in the name of politics! 🎭

His other luxury rides include a Toyota Vellfire, priced at Rs 1.19 crore, and a BMW i7. This fully electric car comes with a price tag of around Rs 2.5 crore. Vijay also has the BMW 5 Series, which is worth around Rs 80 lakh.
There are reports that Vijay previously owned a Rolls-Royce Ghost, worth around Rs 2 crore. He, however, sold it before the polls.
In addition, reports mention a TVS XL, a basic two-wheeler used across smaller towns and cities for short-distance travel.
Gold and jewels part of Vijay’s wealth
Apart from land and cars, Vijay also has a stash of jewellery. He owns gold ornaments weighing close to 883 grammes, valued at roughly Rs 1.20 crore. His wife, Sangeetha, who has filed for divorce, has a more extensive collection; she owns 391 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth about Rs 4.07 crore.
Vijay’s family also possesses diamonds valued at nearly Rs 1 crore.
Vijay’s triumph in Tamil Nadu
It’s been touted as historic. Unlike many others, Vijay tasted success on his electoral debut. The ‘Thalapathy’ proved his political prowess as his party, the TVK, won 108 of the 234 seats in Tamil Nadu.
But Vijay hasn’t just won an election in the state; he’s rewritten the political dynamics — until now, the state was primarily dominated by two political parties, the DMK and the AIADMK. And it is in this entrenched bipolar space that Vijay launched his party and disrupted the domination of the
Dravidian parties.
Many believe that Vijay owes his political success to his mass appeal across different sections of society, such as young first-time voters as well as women voters. Even a chunk of elders opted for Vijay. As the Indian Express writes, “this was less a mandate for a poll manifesto than a vote for possibilities.”
With the win in his bag, Vijay has turned his attention to
government formation. The TVK chief has written to Lok Bhavan, staking a claim to form the government. He informed the Governor that the party had secured 108 seats, and being the single largest party, it should be invited to form the government. “We request an opportunity to demonstrate our majority,” Vijay said in an e-mail communication to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, a source in the TVK said.
An official said the governor is likely to consult legal experts before inviting Vijay to form the government, as no party has secured a clear majority in the election held on April 23. The TVK source added that the party had sought two weeks to prove the majority on the floor of the Assembly House.
Will Vijay be able to repeat his poll success in the Assembly? Only time will tell.
