Six feared dead, several injured in firecracker explosion in Kerala’s Thrissur

At least six people are suspected to have died and several injured in a major firecracker explosion at Mundathikode in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Tuesday.

According to News18, a large stockpile of firecrackers had been stored near the Thiruvambady temple, where the blast took place.

Explosions were reported to be continuing for some time after the initial incident, raising concerns about the scale of the stored materials, added the report.

Around 13 individuals have been rescued so far. Among the injured, five are reported to be in critical condition, while two have been admitted to hospital wards. At least 17 others sustained minor injuries, reported News18.

Emergency services have been deployed to the site, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion.

Meanwhile, Keralam Health Minister Veena George has directed that expert medical care be ensured for those injured in the explosion.

She also instructed that necessary arrangements be made at Thrissur Medical College for their treatment. Additionally, directions were given to deploy sufficient ambulances, including Kanivu 108 ambulances, to the site, reported ANI.
