The high-octane elections in West Bengal have led up to this day as the state waits for poll results on Monday. Exit polls showed a close fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, with the former predicted to win the elections and end TMC’s 15 years of rule.

The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections were conducted against the backdrop of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which led to a reduction of nearly 90 lakh voters in the state.

As a result, around 6.83 crore electors were eligible to participate in the polls. The election saw an unprecedented turnout, with more than 92 per cent of voters casting their ballots. Vote counting is scheduled to take place at 77 centres across 23 districts. Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened following concerns raised by the Trinamool Congress over potential irregularities.
