Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her budget speech, unveiled “Biopharma Shakti”, a ₹10,000-crore strategy aimed at strengthening India’s biologics ecosystem and positioning the country as a global biopharmaceutical manufacturing hub.

The five-year programme seeks to build domestic capabilities in biologics and biosimilars, as India’s disease burden shifts increasingly towards non-communicable illnesses such as diabetes, cancer and autoimmune disorders.
